So you're sitting at home on a random Thursday night, you're bored and you want to hit the town. Wouldn't it be convenient to slip onto a website that mapped out what all of your friends were up to - in the immediate present tense - in your hometown?
Folks, welcome to Matchtag.

Matchtag is the latest "match-up" site to hit the internet, but wait! It's NOT a dating site. Matchtag is quite simply a place where people can find friends for any activity at any given time. Hit the movies, sports, concerts, poker games, the beach, the mountains, whatever!

The idea behind Matchtag is to provide a place where you can seek out and find what your friends are doing, where they are headed and what kinds of activities they're up to. Matchtag is intelligent. It's a service that allows for you to connect and communicate with like-minded people, while reaching out into your community and providing a vehicle to get out and see your town.

We're not the only ones to dig this site: check out what TechCrunch had to say, calling Matchtag "the more complete social network".

And wait until you check out all the cool features... forget those stale, been-there, done-that dating sites. This is unique:

  • Entire site context is based on your current location, seamlessly
  • Geo-location auto-discovery
  • Mapping of local activities and people
  • Activity calendar for your area
  • Onsite messaging, personal profiles, friends and all the good stuff
  • RSS Feeds of upcoming activities in the area

All of these items make this site and service uber cool. Check it out. Set yourself up with a profile. The usability is a dream. Well, of course it is - it was designed and built by Matchtag Founder, Jeremy Hubert, Web Developer Extraordinaire, Director of Web Development at Raincity Studios, and a super cool and connected swell guy.

MatchTag is unique in so many ways, but mainly due to its' location handling, mapping and the focus on activities rather than the people. Having the user's location already determined before they start using the site allows Matchtag to contextualize the experience on the site in a much smoother fashion. When you're dealing with dating, it's often okay if the user is on the other side of the country, but in the activity game, it needs to be fairly immediate.

Traditional community sites have had a focus on the person (age, gender, etc) and the person's interest has come second, which in the opinion of Matchtag's creator is fairly flawed. Finding people based on the activities they enjoy doing and then narrowing it down by the person's physical attributes is much more realistic.

And what about needing that icebreaker? The construction and process with Matchtag allows one to ask a more direct question, pin-pointed at specific activities in your city, like a concert you want to see, or a bar you want to check out, instead of being abstract in the request.

Congrats Jeremy. This site is hot and is set for even more enhancements and additions as well, coming very soon... see you all on Matchtag - hook it up!
