Haight Ashbury 1967 Another Raincity Radio podcast out the door, Cooperation and Openness in the Vancouver Tech Community - here's the full description with mucho linky goodness:

Taking over the Bryght office, host Dave O is joined by wiki-man Marc from Montreal and PR guru Jordan to talk about Vancouver's tech community scene and recount examples of cooperation including wireless networks, meetups, camps, retreats, and the heaps of start-ups. Finally, they recount the now infamous Workspace incident.

Marc Laporte creator of Tiki Wiki - visiting from Montreal for Web of Change at idyllic the Hollyhock retreat - compares Vancouver's tech scene with Montreal's tech business atmosphere while Jordan Behan of Strutta puts forth Vancouver as "a tech force to be reckoned with" and Dave likens the local Drupal community to Haight Ashbury circa 1967.

They recount events which spotlight and support emerging firms and create more collaboration (and let the Valley know we're here ;-)) including Launch Party, Third Tuesday, DemoCamp, and visits from folks like Mark Blevis - promoter of Podcasters Across Borders among other hats.

Then they break down another great example of the community vibe - Free the Net - a grassroots project covering most of Gastown with meshed wireless Internet access which was built out by volunteers within a couple of weeks.

Plus Marc breaks down the Montreal wireless program, Ils Sans Fils, and Dave gives a shout out to Zhonka Surfbreaks offering free wi-fi for the people of Olympia. Finally, they recount the now infamous Workspace incident featuring a confused and somewhat distraught gentleman in Victoria.
