We Need A Social Media Evangelist!

Blog

Thanks Be To Chris Heuer!

... For coming to Vancouver and instigating and initiating this event, Social Media Club, and not only here in Vancouver, but he's already dropped in on New York, Pheonix, San Fran, Portland, Seattle, and has an ambitious schedule set for the new year. If you want to read about what the hell he's up to, check out the site.

So to sum things and thoughts up, from the various brains in the room:

  • peer to peer collaboration – group to group collaboration
  • gatherings like this allow for our community to tap into the expertise, if you will
  • fight for the cause with your blog, not your gun
  • next up in January: focus on social tagging
  • A good reference book: "Momentum" by Alison Fine – using social media to transform non-profits
  • How does one tap those people who don’t trust the blogging world as a ligimate source – that misconception of “who are these geeky folks?”?
  • get trust, give trust
  • focus on: sharing best practices
  • promoting media literacy – bring our knowledge into the school systems and learn from one another - how to ask a better question and do the better interview
  • and this excellent quote from Boris Mann: "...randomly doing crap and lacking in standards"
