Grateful Dead
Grateful Dead
What a long strange trip it's been

Rhino Records came to the wise fellows formerly known as Bryght for assistance in re-working the venerable Internet destination for a band which defines community participation - The Grateful Dead.
The Rhino team came with a good idea of their goals - mostly based on feedback from the Dead community who waited with bated breath for what would happen next to their beloved band's online presence.
Like bringing in a big time producer to sweeten the mix (think Lowell George for Shakedown Street), Rhino added Drupal veteran (and Raincity Studios VP of Product Development) Boris Mann to the crew to provide support and advice on community features and specific modules to implement.
With Boris's comprehensive knowledge about what is possible, practical and already available in Drupal (he is a Drupal Association Permanent Member after all), he conceived features to effectuate the personal sharing experience in the new site and fulfill what Rhino envisioned.
He points out, "I am particularly fond of the 'I attended this show' feature which allows fans to bookmark individual shows and interact with other Heads by sharing photos and (often hazy) recollections."
The big-thinking technology pundit BMann (who sadly never saw a Dead show) selected a custom menu of modules to fulfill their needs and advised tactics to get the community engaged and interacting.
The site does not lack in content (understatement). Indeed for some time every show, song, setlist, and lyric was available. But now the content is managed, indexed, dynamic, and ready to interact with.
The result is a trove of continually updated site, rich content both from the Heads and Dead-hired documentarians and longtime Dead archivists like David Lemieux and David Gans who post weekly audio features.
With the new participatory profiles DeadHeads are able to richly participate in the cultural recollections from their own long strange trip by sharing photos, thoughts, flashbacks and sentiments on a granular, per show, per tour, level.
Beyond the consulting, the new site was developed on the pioneering Bryght hosted environment. And, the Drupal solution worked so admirably that Boris again jammed with Rhino to advise on the launch of a multi-lingual Drupal deployment for "The Mothership is coming ..." for another noted band of rockers.
