Breaking news:

At Noon Pacific, April 21st, online publisher CNET announced the winners in the 2008 Webware awards and open source content management system Drupal wins the Webware 2008 award in the publishing and photography category.

While we don't get too hung up on awards, for Raincity Studios (and our colleagues formerly known as Bryght) and the Drupal community at large, this is a pleasant validation for the hard work and enthusiasm we dedicate to building this open source content management system.

And this is no light weight trophy! Here's what the organizers say about the process:

The 2008 Webware 100 Awards recognize the best Web 2.0 sites, services, and applications on the Web today. After receiving more than 5,000 nominations for inclusion in the Webware 100, our editors selected 300 finalists. But the Web's users decided the final cut, voting nearly two million times to select the 100 top products--10 each in of 10 categories--from our list of 300 finalists.

The Drupal community is great at building a remarkable CMS (take a look under the hood) but perhaps not as adept at getting the word out about the software and explaining it's mighty powers to non-geeks.

This award provides a bit of a soapbox to talk about Drupal and spread the word that the best tool for many/most organizational management and community communications needs is the option that is open source, growing, well engineered, and has a weird name (OK that's not just Drupal).
