Recapping the Interactive Content Exchange in Toronto

Blog
created on 周三, 2008-04-23 14:13 ICE 08 in Toronto

In this edition of the "Catching up with Krug" report, we get the quick recap on KK's participation at ICE 08 in Toronto, Ontario (note to Americans, Toronto is still not the capitol of Canada).

{Pardon the digression} from American Bacon:

[the Mountie explains that Honey has been taken to the capital]
Boomer: The capital Toronto.
RCMP Officer at Headquarters: No, the capital of Canada is Ottawa.
Boomer: Yeah, right. Do we look that stupid? Ottawa!
Roy Boy: Nice try, Dudley.

Whist there, Kris spoke on a panel - moderated by Eli Singer from Segal Communications - with Amber Macarthur, and Mark Relph, about leveraging the power of social networks. Here's a live blog from the session "Community Watch: Leveraging the Power of Networks" for your interest.

David Crow by KK at ICE08

I noticed a few other workshops including David Crow moderating "Innovation only occurs when people put their jobs on the line."

Having enjoyed a few laughs with D. Crow at SXSW, i can imagine a raucous conversation with passionate opinions mixed with good humour.

He chimed in on the aforementioned Social Networks panel with this wise comment:

David Crow: We talk about this community thing like we’re building something, when we’re really facilitating it.

Among Krug's additional remarks were:

- Really nice meeting space The Carlu in downtown TO.

{Bonus content}: The Carlu is Toronto’s most significant and historical event venue. Designated as a National Historic Site, it is an architectural masterpiece that has been completely restored to its 1930s' splendour and glory but with the very best in modern technology.

- About 400 folks, mostly from eastern parts of Canada - many government orgs, broadcaster types exploring new mediums, wondering "how do i get connect to, and engage, audiences?"

Joey Devilla at ICE 08

- Lots of interest around mobile delivery (see:Thinking inside the (wireless mobile device) box and Are you being followed? - Mobile content and Advertising)

- Gaming keeps innovating (‘Games are happiness algorithms’ video clip)

- Saw the first glimpse of Spore (the game by Will Wright) and saw the creature builder software

Ian Kelso at ICE 08

- Tons of "friends of the family" Mark Greenspan, Phillip Smith, Mclean from The Nimble Company, Jason Roks - (Saving our Internet), Sarah Diamond, Ian Kelso, Will Pate (hanging with Cambrian House these days), Mark Kuznicki, Joey Devilla and many more ...

Not surprisingly, Vancouver photographer KK was also on site shooting a photo collection of the ICE 08 attendees as part of their social media crownd source crew and there is also a whopping ICE 08 Flickr group pool.
